In 2023 I co-founded The Australian Wrongful and Arbitrary Detention Alliance, which advocates for Australian victims of unjust detention and their families. I am also a board member of Hostage Aid Worldwide and a member of the Human Rights Foundation’s Coalition Against Hostage-Taking and Wrongful Detention.

I have provided written and oral testimony to the Australian, UK and Canadian parliaments on matters pertaining to wrongful detention and state hostage-taking. In 2023 I won a fellowship from the Winston Churchill Trust to investigate international best practice in wrongful detention policy.

I have been employed as a Research Fellow in Security Studies at Macquarie University since April 2024.

Human rights in Iran

I am a vocal advocate for the freedom and human rights of the Iranian people. I stood in solidarity with the Iranian-Australian community during the Woman, Life, Freedom movement, including at protests and in private advocacy with our elected parliamentarians. I am strongly supportive of the push to have the Australian government proscribe the IRGC as a terrorist organisation.

I regularly provide media commentary and analysis on foreign affairs relating to Iran, and in 2023 I gave evidence at the Senate Foreign Affairs, Defence and Trade Committee’s enquiry into the human rights implications of recent violence in Iran.

I am currently a member of the advisory board of the Canada-based Iranian Justice Collective.
